Saudi Health Power has designed a new approach to the delivery of primary care in Saudi Arabia, the SHP Care Model© Before designing this new approach to primary care, the SHP leadership worked diligently over several years to investigate different models of care internationally. They visited many countries, networked with leaders and managers in different Family Medicine models. Over time they were able to synthesize this information to develop its new design of health care Modeled on the foundation of the US concept of the Patient-Centered Medical Homes.
The medical home model holds promise to improve health care in Saudi Arabia by transforming how primary care is organized and delivered. The medical home is not simply a place but rather the organization of primary care delivered with the patients’ needs at the core. It has remarkable similarities to Enhanced Primary Care in the new Model of Care of the National Transformation Project.
The SHP FMCM is best described as a model or philosophy of primary care that is patient-centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, accessible, and focused on quality and safety. It has been developed from a widely accepted model for how primary care should be organized and delivered throughout the health care system and is a philosophy of health care delivery that encourages providers and care teams to meet patients where they are, from the simplest to the most complex conditions. It is a place where patients are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion, and enable strong and trusting relationships with providers and staff. Above all, the medical home is not a destination instead, it is a model for achieving primary care excellence so that care is received in the right place, at the right time, and in the manner that best suits a patient's needs.

Putting the patient at the center of their care, with a designated Family Physician in the FMCM will lead to improved outcomes and enhanced experience for the patients.
The functions and attributes of the FMCM overlap with the 40 “coherent interventions” of the New Model of Care developed by the MOH as a part of the National Transformation Program. These interventions will cut across all systems of care and rely heavily on the transformation of primary care services.
Each FMC of six Family Doctors will be led by an experienced Family Medicine Consultant. This doctor will work with an additional five Family Physicians and the Primary Care Core Team. (Appendix 3)
Whether it is a consultation on a new acute illness such as an infection of the throat or a new headache, or a chronic illness such as diabetes or hypertension, SHP expects its patients to feel that they have been listened to and that they have received optimal care. The company expects to create the most well-rounded experience for each patient in order to optimize their health.
At all times, SHP will maintain privacy for patients. All patients will be welcome, including the ones with no insurance. No one will be turned down for medical care. Our clinic will hold no prejudice to race, creed, color or socioeconomic status. Everyone will be welcome for great medical care at every SHP network Family Medicine Center.
This scope of services is comprehensive. A well-trained Family Physician Consultant is trained to act as the leader of a multidisciplinary team that can provide these services. A health care facility designed to be optimized for these services and the information technology designed to support these services contribute to the anticipated success.
